“I Just Can’t Stop Loving You”  was written by Michael Jackson and released on 20 July 1987 as the first single from his 7th album, “Bad”. The song was the first of five consecutive Billboard Hot 100 number 1  hit singles from that album.

“I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” had it’s first success in the UK where it reached number 1 on 15 August, topping the chart for 2 weeks. US success followed a month later on 19 September, with the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for one week. The song also hit number 1 on the R&B singles and Adult Contemporary charts.

Originally Jackson wanted to share vocals with Barbra Streisand or Whitney Houston but both declined. Producer Quincy Jones drafted Siedah Garrett at the last moment, and when she arrived at the studio she was unaware that she was to sing a duet with Michael. Garrett thought she was going to work on the song “Man in the Mirror” which she co-wrote for the “Bad” album.
